I just finished phase 2 for ART FOR HURUMA, a collab project with Barton Damer at alreadybeenchewed.net. We’re collaborating to make poster prints and tees of the final art piece and will be selling them in an effort to raise money for the Huruma Children’s home. READ MORE ABOUT IT HERE.
We’re still working on the final pricing of the prints and tees. I’ll post that exact info once we’ve completed the artwork. In an effort to keep costs down and maximize the amount per tee/poster that will be donated, we’ll be taking online pre-orders to help us gage how many to have printed. Please pass this on, by re-blogging, tweeting etc. We need as many people to follow this project and order tees as possible to help the little guys in kenya. We are getting a killer deal on the printing so ALOT of the money will get to go to the Huruma Children’s Home. Thank you soo much.

SUMMARY:
- Phase 2 is completed
- Barton will be working on Phase 3 this week and upload on his site
- We’ll each receive 3 total opportunities to make our mark on the piece
- The final piece will be made available to purchase online in the form of a tee or poster print
- Proceeds go towards the Huruma Children’s Home

Hi Promise,
Are you going to Huruma next month? I would recommend printing this LARGE format and wheatpasting it to the inside of their dining hall. Right now there is no paint… just bare concrete… I think it would look awesome, and the kids would really love it. You would light fires of creativity within them… especially if it’s super large format (i’m imagining 15ft + !!).
Talk to Mama.. I’m sure she would be down with the idea.
Keep on shining!

YAY!!! thanks so much for your support everybody. Jason! I love the idea. are you going in august? Lisa actually talked to me about doing a mural… but i think this is bomb idea. Printing would be SUPER expensive though, right? Does anyone have any hooks ups with printers?
I am having Lisa Winters measure the location.. so we can move forward with the idea. thanks Jason!!

Wow, that’s great. Guess it helps to have somebody on the ground there…
As for printing.. there are several options. If you are doing wheatpaste.. cheap, rough paper works best.. so I don’t think printing costs would be TOO expensive. Once you get the dimensions.. a few calls to some local printers would give you a good idea.
Another option is to pitch the idea to one of the printers, and see if they would like to support your endeavor (free printing of poster = their donation to Huruma). A massive poster that brings life, beauty and brimming creativity to an orphanage… I don’t think it’d be too hard of a pitch.. especially if you also bring them some publicity..
Last (and perhaps least).. is a method that involves taking the image and breaking it down into A4 sized pieces. There is a program that will do this for you… breaking down the image into a multi-page PDF that you can print on any desktop printer. You then assemble the image by wheatpasting each piece to create the final image. You can learn more here: http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator.
I think the first two methods are preferable, as it would maintain the integrity of the final image (looks awesome by the way!). If you get a quote for printing.. let me know… I’d be willing to help get it printed if no printers catch the vision.
As for transport… I’m pretty sure you can roll it up into a tube and take it with you on the plane!
Hope you have an amazing time at Huruma! I was there back in May… Mama told me about Cornerstone and the work you are doing there this summer. =)
