WEBSITE DESIGN PROCESS FOR MELISSA JILL’S ALBUM TEMPLATES

I am really excited to share with you today a new logo + website project! Melissa Jill, a wedding and portrait photographer, contacted me to design the new visual identity for her company called “ALBUM DESIGN TEMPLATES”. Her album template designs are very clean and modern and her personal style aesthetic has a home-y slightly retro feel. I was stoked to be a part of this project.

As you know I’ve been on a video kick… So instead of just writing a blog post about the project I decided to film a short video to let you in on the process for creating the brand and site. I am kinda stoked because I filmed and edited the video myself. AH! There’s TONS to learn, but you gotta start somewhere.

The project consisted of a logo, visual identity, and the website design. The design process was an interesting one. Melissa desired something different and funky with the layout of the website, which is usually based off of a strong, yet unusual grid. But the album design templates had different grids of their own… which brought a challenging dynamic. We worked through it and Melissa feel in love with one of my Sitehouse website designs so we completely customized it to fit the needs of her brand.

I did not design the templates… those are all her!! And they totally rock! The website was built on the Showit software and is viewable on all mobile devices! WAAHOO! Go check out the finished site HERE.

Let me know what you think, if you’d like to see more videos, and anything I can improve on next time. I’m serious. I’m a video-new-be and would love to hear it.

Lydia - Great job on the logo + website and the video! I like the combination of still having pictures and text and then a video to explain as well. And the video was short enough for me to actually watch on my slower internet. Getting a little interested in how to make a short video for myself… ;-)

promisetangeman - Thanks Lydia!! I wrote a little post about my videos beginnings here: http://www.promisetangemanblog.com/business-2/try-experimenting-with-video-on-your-website-or-blog
I just used iMovie and searched on youtube when I ran into things I didn’t know how to do. haha. :)

Mailinh - Completely AWESOME! Agree with Lydia, too! Love how the video gives us a more in depth look at your relationship with your clients and the process you guys go through together. Very neat and fun!

promisetangeman - Mailinh- AWESOME thanks for the feedback girl!!! miss ya :)

Mike Olbinski - Such a beautiful website, and a nice look into how it’s done!

Laura - love it! I can’t figure out video at all. I mean, I can use iMovie, I just suck at taking interesting and attractive videos. lol! thanks for sharing! Its always valuable to me to see someone else at work.

Ashlee - I love that you included the video! It was a great visual way to get to see the process and the different sites you both went through before zeroing in on ‘the one.’ Really love this!

shaina longstreet - The video is just killer girl! Love the concept and being able to hear and see you work through things together. Great idea. :) And I love how the site turned out. :)

Sara Nevels - Ahhh, this turned out SO COOL!!! You are rocking these videos, Promise! That day was so much fun, and I can’t wait to see more of these!

David - Great video. Perfect length to keep people interested…and the site definitely looks great. What is everyone’s take on splash/landing pages? To me they seem like a hurdle to people unless you have some really specific you want to show each visitor. If someone is already trying to get to your site, why make them “Click to Enter” again?

Andra - LOVE how you are incorporating video Promise!!! Been gearing up to add some to our site…(who knew a sewing machine for a model could be so fun! ha!) I’m getting GREAT feedback on our site, thank you again for your AMAZING help and design template!! Sitehouse Go Live was such a blessing!

Jaclyn C. - This is awesome sauce!!! I love the whole layout of website, Melissa’s layouts, the cute and fun video. EEK! Great job girls!!

Amy - Promise, you seriously are rocking it out so hard core! And now with this video stuff, shoot woman, I’m lovin all the hats you wear! One suggestion when putting music to a video, the background music competed with the audio a tad. You want vocal audio to bounce on the audio scanner at about -12db (in most video editing software it will be a yellow region,) so if you add background music, just make sure it’s far enough under that so it doesn’t take away from the talking. Also, you can always play with bringing the music volume up when no one is talking. Anyway, you’re awesome! And I am by no means an expert, but just thought I’d share a bit of what I do know! Keep the videos coming!

s.i. - Love love love this! I get so inspired when I get a sneak peek of other people’s creative processes and best practices. I really enjoyed your creative toolbox sharing and this video sharing. Makes me want to go out and create!! :)

More please! And thank you…
