It seems that being an “artsy” person that decorating a home would come slightly natural to me. But…. i am left totally clueless. Maybe because i spent so much time during the day doing creative problem solving that at the end of the day my brain is fried. Thats the same way i feel about cooking. People say “oh i love cooking, its my creative outlet”. at the end of the day my brain has had WAY to much creative outletting that i have nothing left to decide how many teaspoons of salt to add or if this tomato would would taste good in a chocolate chip cookie batter. So, for now, i will take tips from the pros.
The wurzell home took a turn when i got a can of chalk board paint. Its been so fun to see this trend unfold online, and I too had to get in on the fun. This is a wall in our downstairs family room. Its kind of an awkward wall…. Because the walking space is so shallow there that you cant put anything against it. But it’s prominent enough that it needs some special treatment. SO i did it. It only took a few hours. And we have had a lot of fun with it so far. We had some friends from california come stay with us… so i made them a special mural. haha. Marina and Jonathan.
SOme day i will do a little house tour. There are definitely a few things that I could use some of your suggestions on and insight on.
CHALKBOARD HOW TOS:
1. GET THE PAINT
We bought our chalk board paint at Home Depot.
2. CLEAN THE WALL
clean the wall you want to paint with water and a sponge… just to get some of the dirt off
3. PRIME THE WALL
We skipped this step… but I suggest you do it. I think they even have a chalkboard primer you can use
4. PAINT THE WALL WITH CHALKBOARD PAINT
We painted about 3 coats and let it dry over night a couple of times
5. WAIT 3 DAYS
I am not sure why it takes 3 days to COMPLETELY settle in… but i guess you have to wait that long until you can draw on it
6. CONDITION THE PAINTED WALL
Cover the wall with a layer of chalk.. then earase it. The more build up the wall has the better it will earase.
7. GO FOR IT.
Get carried away and have fun drawing and writing.
