Hey friends! I just made this really fun necklace over the weekend and I wanted to share it with you!! I LOOVE IT!! It’s really easy. I have been seeing FRINGE everything. Fringe this and fringe that! I thought…I bet I can create a fringe necklace out of an old t-shirt. And sure enough, it can turn your ordinary outfit into a carefree, boho look! I bet you already have most of the items that you’ll need at home. Here is goes:

I would suggest a regular guys t-shirt or one of the stiffer old school ones! Some of the new women’s t-shirts don’t rip very well. I think a bright colored t-shirt would be really cool too! Or if you want to bump it up a notch… LEATHER would be really really amazing.

INGREDIENTS:
Old t-shirt, scissors, and needle and thread.
1 // Rip t-shirt into thin strips. Start the rip with a small cut using scissors.

2 // Pull both ends and rip! Rip the entire t-shirt into long thin strips.

3 // Choose the longest 3 pieces and start to braid. This will be the base of your necklace.

4 // Line up the other strips in the order that you want them. I suggest cutting them to create different lengths. Longer layers in the middle for the fringe look. Make sure the thin strips are DOUBLE the length that you want them in the final product.

5 // Start to braid the fringe into the base of your necklace-braid one strip at a time. Pull tight. One thin strip should look like 2 strips hanging because its folder over and weaved through the braid.

6 // Sew the two ends of the necklace together so you can’t see the seam. Or you can tie a knot here if you don’t mind seeing a knot.

ALL DONE!!
What do you think? Gonna try it? If you like this and try this I WANNA see!! Link to your project in the comment section! To view past DIT projects go HERE. Have a great monday.

Karin - The F Girl - Love it. What a fun idea! I might try that really soon!
Mailinh - AWESOME!!! Love how easy it is, too! (P.S. Love your nail color by the way. Glad to see you rocking neon yellow). ;0)
tonya - That looks amazing. Gonna have to give it a try. Thanks for the DIY.
Jasmine - Loves it!!! But…I don’t quite understand how you braid the free pieces into the main piece?
Alexandra Evjen - OOOOO! Fun! I want one!
promisetangeman - Jasmine- Sorry for not being clear enough! you just bend the fringe piece in half and loop it through the braid. You could also go through at the end and loop the fringe pieces through the braid. because its t-shirt material it just stays in place!
Jasmine - Ahhhhh, ok! That makes sense! So simple and cute! I’ve made 6 other various t-shirt necklaces, I’ll have to add this one to my collection!
Kayla Henley - Great idea! I love cutting up t’s. You need a Pin It button on your blogs!!
Lani - I tried this last night with an old men’s dress shirt. Umm, you definitely make it look easier and cooler than mine turned out like!! I felt like it was a napkin bib!
Another time, another DIY!
promisetangeman - @Lani… Hmm.. not sure what went wrong. I would imagine it was the fabric on the dress shirt?!?! I definitely think this DYI needs a regular old T-shirt.
Jamilah Newcomer - Thanks for this awesome tutorial Promise! I made it last night & it looks awesome! Once I take a pictures I’ll make sure to post a link… One thing for me I did differently — I cut the strips with scissors instead of ripping the strips… with the t-shirt I had, it just wasn’t ripping properly… so I cut once inch strips — and afterwards I just pulled and stretched them out and the ends curled nicely… can’t wait to wear it!! =) Thank you!
rebecca - love this! i’m loving on some fringe right now so this is a perfect diy. been looking for the perfect turquoise colored necklace lately too….i have an old turquoise tee that never wear..whoop whoop!
Bryton - I made one!!!! Thanks for the tutorial! my link here: http://jandbmorse.blogspot.com/2012/08/fringe.html

Nikki Jay - I’m thinking of making this necklace tonight. Which direction did you cut the t-shirt; vertically or horizontally?
