ONLY FOR THE SILLY PEOPLE

This is just a silly post. If you are a serious person or take yourself or me seriously… DONT READ THIS!!!

I know that you people only know me as a blondie… But surprise surprise I am actually a brunette!! hhaa. Big surprise I know. Only in the past two years have I tried the blonde hair thing. And I liked it. I love having bleachy blonde hair because it’s kinda fried and stays wherever I put it. haha.

Well, it has been a really interesting getting a little older now, because I feel like I’m not as daring as I used to be. AHH!! In high school and college I changed my hair style and coloring ALL the time. I loved drastic change and something different all the time. Short hair, long hair, highlights, black hair, red hair, and now blonde hair. But now I feel all scared to change it up.

Is that what happens when you get older? You just stay with what’s safe? Well, not anymore. I think I’m ready for a change again. I’m getting my hair colored next week and the big question is: Should I color it brown?!?!?! Because I have come to like you guys, I think I want to ask your opinion. But don’t be offended if I don’t do what you say. haha. I found these photos of Ashley greene in the new Nylon Magazine and I think it’s the shade of warm brown that I am looking for. What do you think? HELP HELP!!

I’ve been having the SAME thoughts! My mom is a hairdresser, so I grew up coloring my hair alllll the time. I colored it blonde last summer and have been toying with the idea of coloring it dark again! But enough about me :)

I loveee your hair now, but could totally see it lookin rockin’ as a brunette! I guess I’m no help in your decision making. I’m so anxious to see what you decide!! :) Good luck!

  2. wrecklessgirl Says:

i’m the same way: always changing my hair color between the extremes. right now mine’s a warm brown and i’m thinking i’ll go bleachy blond. i say go for it. maybe do warm brown with some funky low or highlights (or even some rad color streaks).

  3. Kodi Says:

Change is good. I always want to change my hair up too — though I’m probably still in the young and daring phase.

My opinion — blonde hair tends to feel warm and bright, so a drastic change to a dark color would be alarming. But Ashley Greene’s hair makes me think of honey. It’s a warm brown with lightness mixed through it — so I think it would be a more subtle change back to brunette and still have the warmth that your blonde hair does. So my vote is brunette! Because I love a good change.

  4. promisetangeman Says:

oohh i like these thoughts. :) Thanks.

  5. Erica Velasco Says:

I think you would look great as a brunette…again! Haha. Anyway, that’s my two cents as a brunette….you have to come back to our side!

  6. Lora Ayers Says:

YES! Promise, do it!! Warm golden brown with a few lighter highlights! I hope you post after pictures, would love to see it! :)

  7. Annie Says:

I love change! I say GO FOR IT!! Because you can always change it back. Change is good! :)

I like what Erica said, and I second it – Come back to our side!

  8. Perry Says:

That’s awesome. You should do it.
Hannah pulled a similar stunt just before we got married. She had long, bleached hair while we were dating and then decided to dye her hair a shade darker than those pictures and cut it short.
Now, she just recently decided to quit the short look and grow hers out long again.

I love the changes. Keeps things exciting.

  9. Kayla Says:

I love it! I think you would look fabulous as a brunette! Although I am going back towards blonde myself. :-)

  10. christy Says:

Hi Promise!!…my first time posting, although i love all your work…dude i totally think the brown hair would look awesome, although you would probably still look uber cool no matter what:)

  11. promisetangeman Says:

CHRISTY!!! YAY! thanks for saying hi and for throwing in your two cents. :) You rock. :)

  12. emily Says:

i think blonde looks great on you but i think this brown would look beautiful too!
I think you should surprise us all and go bright red! i think all hair colours would suit you.

  13. mandythompson Says:

What does your man want you to do? Not that we are to be all-super-submissive pansy wives, but his opinion should be considered.

I’ve only known you in the blogworld as a blonde… But I’m along for the ride, so whatever makes you happy!

PS: Is that why my hair has no volume or sass at all? Because it’s not fried? dang…

  14. kelly ann Says:

she has such gorgeous hair, i love how long it is and i LOVE the colour! it’s so warm and pretty… if you go for it, i think you would rock it! ;)

  15. megan welker Says:

I LOVE that shade of brown! I think you could totally rock it :) Of course, I think you’d look good in anything!

  16. Charis Says:

I think you’d look fantastic as a brunette! I’ve been all sorts of colours too & am currently a reddish-brunette. Colouring your hair is fun!

  17. Linda Stoll Says:

Go for it! You can always change it back again!

    And have fun with it!

  18. Kristi @ Visible Voice Says:

Color you can always play with. It’s when you chop off all your hair (like I did because you know…I wasn’t scared to do that in high school EEEEK) that it gets a bit hard or scary. I say to do it up. It’ll be fun. And it’s a good warm color so if you decide to put blonde back in again someday it won’t be too hard. And yes…it is something that happens when you get older. Or at least it happened the same for me.

  19. april russell Says:

Well I must say I love this brunette color! I also have seen a few photos of you with more brunette in your hair, and I am a fan. But, ultimately it comes down to what makes Promise happy! Also, I know the feeling of being scared of change all of a sudden. I was always changing, cutting, coloring my hair before I had a family. Now, it is a little scarier to dye my hair blue knowing I have to face other childrens parents and possibly have a finger pointed my way… why bother?!? Also, my hubby, as amazing as he is…. is a little on the safe side and likes my hair “plain” which is long and brown. BORING! haha! I think you will be beautiful whichever direction you go…. and as the saying goes… It’s just hair! You can always change what you don’t like! Goodluck and can’t wait to see pics!

  20. Katie Says:

Brunette is where it’s at, and I love the shade that you “might” use for your color!

  21. claudia Says:

do you know when there’s a drastic change in something and it’s a super hard on the eye? : “oh wow….uh, its gonna take a while to get used to…uhhhh…..(insert awkward silence)” ….. the shock on your eyes is kinda like when someone suddenly turns on the lights early in the morning—- well, that’s NOT your case, hehehe.

the color choice is really nice on the eye, its a BIG change from your blonde but its not a “YEEEOOOUUUCCCH” factor. i dunno if you were planning to have the blonde streaks in it like Ashley does, (i love the ones in the front, framing the face) but it would be nice because it brings a little relativity to your old (blonde) hair color=less of shock on your pupils. :) then, as time goes on you can gradually work your way to low light’s and even darker shades of brown.

i think as you get older that tends happen, (referring to your question about not changing your hair as often as you get older) it’s happened with me & my friends (we’re 22-25). i think as a younger person your still figuring out who you are, your inconsistant…when in contrast as an adult you are a bit more sure of who you are, where your headed and your attitude is more like…”this is me, take it or leave it…” and the changes that you do is just altering what you have. so uh…does that make sense to you?

**ps, i hope i didn’t sound like a square with that explanation, im SOOOOO for funky hair. i have a fun cut myself!

as for me, i was the same growing up, i ALWAYS had a new color and cut. i went short (a bob) about a year and a half ago and its worked its way up to it being super tapered to my head! and now i’m growing out the bottom to have a bit of mullet! ha! i know i know! but i figured: hey, its hair, it always grows back or you can always cut! as for color, it’s intense auburn red with a bleach blonde streak right in the middle. i’ve had this since about december & i retouch it every 2-4 weeks. (dear deep conditioner, i love you & thank you. hahahaha!)

okay i just wrote a mini novel about hair……

  22. Amber Says:

I think that color is beautiful! I think you would make one smokin’ hot brunette!

  23. Mindy Says:

    I say go for it!

  24. Alyshia Says:

Noooooooooooo!!! I love your crazy blonde hair!

  25. Alexandra Says:

    Yay for brown!

  26. Heather Lynn Says:

I think you would be a rockin’ brunette. Ashley Greene’s hair is gorgeous, and can be played up and rocked out, or flat ironed to be smooth and shiny too. You have such great features and style that whatever you decide to do will look amazing. Have fun with it!

  27. kellyhicks Says:

that brown is gorgeous! go for it. I have the same dilemma with my bangs. bangs or no bangs? and for that matter, straight across bangs? side bangs? fringe bangs? etc. etc. haha the hair decisions never end!

  28. AmyPunky Photography Says:

I am a brunette and will always be one! But I love you as a blonde! It suits you perfectly! You’re like a rockstar! LOL
But I love these photos, I know I’m not very helpful! You just have to do what you want! Just give it a try!

  29. melissa Says:

    brown! do it!

  30. alex evjen Says:

i love change, so i vote for dying it brown. you should add some warmth with copper/red tones too.

  31. Jessica Says:

Ooh, I love you as a blonde, but I love brunettes and red heads:) I think that color would look great on you..
And P.S> I love Ashley Greene!

  32. Kristen Whitmire Says:

love love LOVE your blonde locks! Don’t change!

  33. Candice Says:

Promise, you are the type of person that could pull off any hair color! I know how hard it can be to make that decision though…I think it’s always easier to go lighter than darker. I will say though, I was a blonde all throughout high school and my early college years. I decided to go brunette when I thought my hair was too fried…I wanted to give my poor hair a “break”-haha. So I colored it brown right before I turned 21 and I LOVED it! I’m almost 24 now, and I don’t think I’ll be going back blonde anytime soon. Although it’s tempting sometimes :) HAha. If you go brunette, please share pics! ;)

  34. Awkward Says:

I say go for it! If you don’t like it you can always change it, and the shade of brown you chose is fantastic.

  35. Jenni Says:

    hey promise!

i’m a brunette and i’ve always wanted to put pink streaks in my hair. a couple months ago i went to an art opening for an artist i know and she had pink streaks in her brown hair! :) now i really want to do it! why not be a little crazy no matter how old you are?

i love those pics of ashley greene. her hair looks awesome, so i think you’d look awesome with brown hair, too. you guys kinda even look alike!

  36. Whitney Warner Says:

i was the same way through high-school and college, but more with my outfits! I was very outrageous and was always trying new things. The other day I was looking in the mirror and thought “what happened” im not that outgoing unique dresser anymore! So sad, but I do think its because we get older and MATURE. That is the key word. It’s all good as long as your man lokes it!

    GooD Luck!

  37. Sarah Pring Says:

I’m going through the same thing but the other way around. I grew up blonde then my hair turned brown, then I dyed it every color, then I went back to blonde a few years ago and thought it was so fun, now I’ve been back to brown for like 3 years.
It’s so hard because brown is free, Nick loves it, and I feel like it’s a beautiful look. But blonde was fun! And really, my hair is my pride and joy. What if they mess up the blonde???
    Life is SO hard!

  38. Sarah Pring Says:

PS I didn’t even recognize Ashley Greene with the long hair. Beautiful! I LOVE long hair. If I could afford extensions I would have hair to my belly button for sure!

  39. Hannah Says:

    I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!

but you could rock anything– for real.

  40. Josh Thomson Says:

I may not be much help since i’m a guy, but I say go for it. If you’re not happy with it you can always change it, but i’d agree with maybe throwing in some red or blonde with it too.

  41. Sarah K Says:

I say “go big or go home”!!! Big changes are good. Be shocking and go brown! I was blonde all my life and now I’m brown and I really like it, but who says I won’t change again one day just to throw people off;) Go for it!

  42. elise Says:

    Hey promise!
You would look beautiful with brown hair ! BUT!!! if you do color it brown be sure and keep some of your funky look to it by adding in different streaks maybe in the bottom or adding streaks of black underneath? idk just not completely brown :) You look so pretty blonde too!

  43. Jonna Says:

When I was a brownie, I loved it…and really wanted to pull of some purple streaks underneath (but didn’t feel like I could…I worked in a preschool…). I LOVED my brown hair, until I went black. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE my dark hair. It kind of has redish undertones. The best part about the dark hair is that I get to wear more blush and I don’t feel so washed out. The crazy thing though, is that I’m a natural blonde-but hated it. I couldn’t pull it off. However, YOU my dear can!!! Your blonde hair is gorgeous and if I had your fab texture (and amazing skin tone) would totally go back. :)
As for playing it safe, I feel that I’m becoming more daring in my terribly old age (I’m almost 29…HA!!).
But, you’re right. It’s only hair. I’m sure whatever you decide it will be fabulous…and the rest of us will be terribly jealous.

  44. MaryEllen Says:

i love my fried blonde hair and i wouldn’t change for anything! it was such a process to get it to where i liked it …. so going brown would be hard. you will look cool with either or but i say STAY! (blonde)

  45. cassy Says:

I say go for it!! I think it would look super cute! :]

  46. Hope Says:

i JUST dyed my hair from blonde to brunette yesterday!!! pretty much the same shade of brunette. I say do it! why not? as you know, you can always change it!

  47. chelsea Says:

only do it if you want to be stuck a brunette for awhile! especially if your hair is so long!

coming from someone who has short hair, has dyed her hair black, and now waiting to grow out the dye so that i can go blonde! it’s really hard to go from a dyed brunette to blonde.

  48. Diandra Says:

I am a natural blond and I’ve been like you were… I made all kinds of changes all the time. For the last year or so I’ve been different shades of brunette and I LOVE it! I say go for it! You can always change it back :)

  49. caitlin Says:

i think you should color it brown!! i think the brown will be a fun change for a while…you can always go back blonde. :p also, since you are naturally a brunette…choosing a warm brown color will really play up your facial features….like your eyes and skintone. just my opinion!

  50. Natalie Says:

Brunette is beautiful! Discovered your blog today and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I added you to my blog list. Go for brown, you will look exotic!

  51. Sarah Bel Says:

Miss Promise. You are beautiful with whatever hair color you choose…this is coming from the 27 year old lady who’s hair has been blue, purple, pink, red, and blonde…lol! Have fun with whatever hairstyle/color you choose!

  52. Shurrley Says:

Hi Promise! I say you should go for it! Brown all the way! I’m thinking to color my soft black hair to warmer shade of brown. Can’t wait to see how yours go! :D

  53. shelley Says:

Promise….being a blonde Im a little partial myself. :) but seriously if you have it in your idea-brain to be a brunette again….i say go for it!! You know best. Your hair is gorgeous and will be beautiful no matter what!! It’s fun to change. Always listen to what you know!! You have a rad style that rocks. :) Blessings.

  54. Tina Says:

I LOVE change and being different! I normally have short hair and want to grow it out long and lucious like all the pretty girls :) but I don’t know why? I know I look better with short, and I am lucky to pull off short, and I always fight long hair anyways. So I am going thru the same thing. I want change but scared to actually grow it. But as a hairstylist too, You would look great in any color really. And you’ll definately want to go a warmer brown or else it will look a muddy color since it is so blonde. You have an awesome stylist so I know it will look great! Go for it!

  55. Jessica Burkett Says:

I think that you should stick with blonde, It just seems so YOU and you just seem bright and happy. I mean brown would look great too but if you get brown do another funky color with it like some red or even some blonde with the brown… But I def down for change!!! My hair color changes almost every month and I have finally settled with brown… so go for what your gut is tellin ya ha!

  56. Lydia Says:

Go for it! Love that color, and I think you would totally rock it out!

  57. Ashlee Says:

DOOOO IT!!! I mean, why not? You can always change it back if you don’t like it. I love the pics you posted with the reddish-blonde to the brown. You’ll totally rock it out!

  58. Krystle Says:

Yeah girl! Do it. You’ll totally pull it off. I’m on my way back too!

  59. Nicole Monique Photography Says:

I say go for it! Change is something that we as humans crave and seek out, so why not shake things up a bit. Just make sure to post pics of the final product ;-)

  60. brian wurzell Says:

i say change it up my love! :) i met you with brown hair and fell in LOVE…let’s try that again! i’m all about it.

  61. Kristen Mallory Says:

I just did this very thing last week and I’m LOVING IT!! DO it!

  62. elsie Says:

i think it would look amazing brown! plus a whole new world of white and light colored hair accessories will look amazing on you, perfect for Spring.

you can always change it back….. ;) ) Lovies!

  63. Hannah Says:

    dooooooo it!

  64. alexis Says:

    i say go black.

but YES to brown!! its more natural.

  65. Rachel Brooke Says:

I vote brown! I think a brown with a nice honey-colored base would look great on you!

  66. Brooke Says:

you left blogland hanging in suspense. did you join the other side? :-)

  67. Leah Mullett Says:

DO IT BRUNETTE!!! LOVE IT AND NOT TO MENTION YOU CAN PULL ANYTHING OFF! :) POST PICS!

  68. Emily Stone Says:

I think it would be really pretty if you dyed it a auburn color with blond and orangy-ish peek-a-boos. that way you can have the brunette color you want, but still have the edgy fun flair to it too!

  69. jessie b Says:

Promise, don’t be afraid to live your life the way you want to and more specifically, wear your hair the way you want to. I have also had my hair lots of different styles/colors (actually did a huge photo montage about it here…http://painting-on-the-road.blogspot.com/2010/05/wild-hair-wednesday.html)

I am currently trying to get my indie biz started and also considered what my clients might say when they find out I HAVE DREADS. But you know, for the very reason I’m starting an indie biz is the same reason I have dreads. I’m creative. I’m adventuresome. I’m willing to take risks and be MYSELF. So if someone is put off by it, then I guess we wouldn’t be a good fit.

Have fun girl! Be yourself! You’ve been doing a great job at it so far. ;)

    Jess
