A RANDOM KIND OF MONDAY

Okay. So today I decided that it might be fun for some random facts… Here’s the deal, after you read mine you need to write your own! Post them on your blog or Facebook and leave a link here in the comments so we can check it out! Here are mine and some of them are kind of embarrassing. Haha. But that’s just part of the fun, right? (photo by Andria Lindquist)

I was home schooled (BAM… “You’re gonna throw that one out first??!” YEA, sure)

I sing out loud to EVERY SONG!! And I know all the words. No joke. Future officemates: WATCH OUT!

Growing up I wanted to be a cop and run around with a gun belt, and a walkie-talkie…fighting crime

DEALING W/ THE IDEA OF FAILURE

It’s important to not get TOO emotionally invested into a certain idea, project, or venture to the point in which you start to measure your self worth based on the project’s success or non-success. AHH have you even done that? I have. YES, you want to achieve your goals and execute the plan to the best of your abilities, but you can’t afford to be derailed to the point of no return if the project doesn’t work out! The idea of “failure” can hinder people from having confidence, moving on, stepping out, and taking that second chance. That’s when we need to be reminded of the BIG picture and what really matters in life. And move forward. That project does NOT define you! Personally, I try to not to look at things that don’t work out as “failures.” But instead I look at it for what it is…just an idea or project that didn’t work out! #liveAlittle.

A big thanks to Lindsay letters for illustrating this for us this week. Check out the one she did last week HERE! WOOHOO!!! Have a great weekend & take some risks.

shaina longstreet - Love this attitude. I need to work on embracing this view of failure. Its one of my biggest fears, but if I stopped calling it “failure” maybe I could move on. Thanks for another great post. :)

promisetangeman - AWESOME Shaina!! Glad this was helpful! I think this is a mind shift that continually needs work

Mailinh - LOVE this! My students who end up repeating a level need to hear this. Totally sharing this with them. Thank you, Promise! xx

Laurajane - thank you so much for this. i’m struggling with this right now since my photography business is kind of in the process of failing (i’m trying to stop that thought). but i’m wrapping so much of identity up in being a photographer and then feeling identityless if it doesn’t work out. i need to have better perspective about this daily. thank you for helping.

Tessa Harvey - So guilty. Thanks for the encouragement! ;-)

Hannah Beasley - Thanks for this post!! I’ve been feeling kinda down about my business failures – this really helped me. =D

Ashlee - Thanks so much for this post! Being a graphic design student in college, I’m constantly trying to avoid the notion of failure. Failure is a hard concept to grapple with. I just try to remind myself that I’m here to learn and figure what does and doesn’t work. It’s just about putting in the time and being a little fearless! I really enjoyed this!

Genevieve Gail Swinford - This is a great reminder!!! Just had a project fall through that I really REALLY wanted, but now realizing it totally wasn’t meant to be and I’m actually morphing it into something even better for another client… Funny how that works sometimes :)

STUDDED FLATS ARE LIKE…KILLA!

HAPPY THURSDAY!! Okay I have a fun announcement!! Last week I mentioned that Lindsay letters is a new addition to the blog and now we have another RAD chick to add into the mix! Bethany Olson is a brilliant photographer with a MAD personal style! I have been following Bethany for a couple of years now…and she is like my style MATCH!! If there was a REPIN-ALL button on Pinterest I would pretty much just repin everything that she pins! Haha. So I have asked her to share one of her favorite trends for the season every week! And the best part? Every trend will be under 50 bucks. AHH I’m stoked!

From Bethany: Hello everyone! STUDDED FLATS are my pick for this week. Studs on clothing has become a very popular trend this summer, and currently making it’s way into this fall. And I’m loving it! Especially on flats. I wear flats all year round just because they work with every kind of outfit, and they’re comfortable. Studded flats can make a simple outfit rock and give the outfit more flare. It gives the perfect edginess to everything. The ones above are from Free People. I came across a few pairs that are $50 or under! THESE are from Shoedazzle.com! I love these because they have this shoe in other fun colors. LuLu’s Bamboo Mansion Flats. Studded loafers from Urban Outfitters! They also have snakeskin on them- so cool! And last but not least Topshop Studded Ballet Flats!

Thanks Bethany! I must say I am liking the ones from Urban. haha. They have a pirate look to em. LOVE THAT!! Does that mean I can bring out my studded belt again?!?! What do you all think? Will you try it? Are studs your thing? Oh and also… I have been trying to come up with a name for this column… any ideas?

promisetangeman - Izzy!! I like those too! They are from Free People!! I will get the link!! They are a bit more expensive! But I think it would be a FUN DIY project!!

Ashley Dru - LOVE THEM! I also love Bethany and have been following her work as well! Please never stop bringing super rad people onto your blog Promise! Promise? haha made myself laugh on that one!

Mailinh - Ooo….love ‘em! Most ladies love heels, but this one is a flat lover.

A - I think my favorite are the colored ones from shoedazzle. But the blazer – now THAT is true love. Any idea where it’s from?

Bethany Menzel - Go Bethany! What a stylish girl!
P.S A- I have an almost identical blazer from Love Culture.

CREATE A DIY FRINGE NECKLACE

Hey friends! I just made this really fun necklace over the weekend and I wanted to share it with you!! I LOOVE IT!! It’s really easy. I have been seeing FRINGE everything. Fringe this and fringe that! I thought…I bet I can create a fringe necklace out of an old t-shirt. And sure enough, it can turn your ordinary outfit into a carefree, boho look! I bet you already have most of the items that you’ll need at home. Here is goes:

I would suggest a regular guys t-shirt or one of the stiffer old school ones! Some of the new women’s t-shirts don’t rip very well. I think a bright colored t-shirt would be really cool too! Or if you want to bump it up a notch… LEATHER would be really really amazing. View full post »

Karin - The F Girl - Love it. What a fun idea! I might try that really soon!

Mailinh - AWESOME!!! Love how easy it is, too! (P.S. Love your nail color by the way. Glad to see you rocking neon yellow). ;0)

tonya - That looks amazing. Gonna have to give it a try. Thanks for the DIY.

Jasmine - Loves it!!! But…I don’t quite understand how you braid the free pieces into the main piece?

Alexandra Evjen - OOOOO! Fun! I want one!

promisetangeman - Jasmine- Sorry for not being clear enough! you just bend the fringe piece in half and loop it through the braid. You could also go through at the end and loop the fringe pieces through the braid. because its t-shirt material it just stays in place!

Jasmine - Ahhhhh, ok! That makes sense! So simple and cute! I’ve made 6 other various t-shirt necklaces, I’ll have to add this one to my collection!

Kayla Henley - Great idea! I love cutting up t’s. You need a Pin It button on your blogs!!

Lani - I tried this last night with an old men’s dress shirt. Umm, you definitely make it look easier and cooler than mine turned out like!! I felt like it was a napkin bib! ;) Another time, another DIY! :)

promisetangeman - @Lani… Hmm.. not sure what went wrong. I would imagine it was the fabric on the dress shirt?!?! I definitely think this DYI needs a regular old T-shirt. :)

Jamilah Newcomer - Thanks for this awesome tutorial Promise! I made it last night & it looks awesome! Once I take a pictures I’ll make sure to post a link… One thing for me I did differently — I cut the strips with scissors instead of ripping the strips… with the t-shirt I had, it just wasn’t ripping properly… so I cut once inch strips — and afterwards I just pulled and stretched them out and the ends curled nicely… can’t wait to wear it!! =) Thank you!

rebecca - love this! i’m loving on some fringe right now so this is a perfect diy. been looking for the perfect turquoise colored necklace lately too….i have an old turquoise tee that never wear..whoop whoop!

Bryton - I made one!!!! Thanks for the tutorial! my link here: http://jandbmorse.blogspot.com/2012/08/fringe.html

CREATE MORE… WHY DONTCHA?!?!

Well, this is fun… isn’t it? AAHHH!! I am beyond thrilled to have Lindsay from Lindsay letters contributing with her pretty penmanship! She will be Showcasing pretty quotes found here on the blog and other words/advice that make a difference in our lives!! I loooove what she did with this!

I really believe in this message and I think that a lot of people get think that they have to FIND their style… like it’s something to go looking for. I don’t think thats the case. Everyone has their own style. One that is recognizable to THEM!! I talk a little more about that HERE. HAPPY FRIDAY!! Give Lindsay an exuberant WELCOME in the comment section. Excited to have her here.
