FREE DESKTOP DOWNLOAD

I always love changing things up, whether it be my work environment, the arrangement of my rooms, closet organization, laptop filing system etc. So, today I revamped my desktop with this design I created including this great quote I found last week. I love the reminder and I think we can live to express a lot of different things in our lives: thankfulness, patience, our faith, our story, our need for each other, and our need for God. I hope you enjoy it, and use it… as it’s a great reminder, especially staring you in the face in the middle of your desktop. haha. Here are a few standard sizes below. Love you guys & girls! Thank you so much for your love and support for my life and for my craft. I appreciate YOU!!

A SIMPLE ART INSTALLATION

Well hello!! I am back this week with a fun and *simple* project that I just finished for my home. I have been enjoying doing some home improvement projects the last couple of weeks, so I hope to maybe post a little house tour soon. We shall see. But until then I wanted to share with you a very simple art installation project. I realized that my downstairs didn’t really have any personal photos, clippings or anything to make it, well, a “home”. So I got a few photos printed, used some items found around my home, and busted out a simple, yet effective little art installation for my kitchen. View full post »

IDEA MAKERS: USING YOUR CREATIVITY TO IT’S FULL POTENTIAL

Have you ever sat in front of the computer waiting to be inspired? You open up the design program, move a few squares around and nothing happens?!?! I have. I’m fooled into thinking I’m getting somewhere because I’m “working” but I don’t get anywhere except for frustrated. So then, I think it’s me. “I’m just not creative today”… ” I have too much on my mind” or “I’m just tired.” But the truth is…I’m going about it the wrong way. Design platforms such as Photoshop or Showit are not idea-makers… And in some cases they can actually stunt my creativity. View full post »

Mailinh - Love this post! That’s how I’ve been feeling lately, and I’ve been doing the same thing. Some times it takes the simple things in life to find that new idea. :0)

kita - I agree, when I sit at the computer its all a grid, lines and squares. I forget that not everything fits in a 960 box. If I move away to pencil and paper it all just seems to flow better.

Kelly Lane Lusk - SO TRUE! Thank you so much for the reminder! It is also reassuring to know that YOU (creative, inspiring, fabulous) go through the same thing!

Jaclyn C. - Wow…I was literally just thinking this and spent over an hour in PS and AI to get nowhere. Thanks for this. Sometimes I need to be reminded to get away from my desk and go create. So off I go to my creative room….

Stephenie Zamora - This is so true and such a great reminder for me. When I was in school I would come up with such fun and unique ideas for designs… of course in college you can DO the crazy ideas too, but in the real world with real budgets, I learned how to simplify them down to printable while still maintaining the fun concept. This isn’t something I’ve done in awhile and I will definitely take your advice and get back to paper and pencil at the beginning!

Cristina | Positively Beauty - Amen! I totally agree :)
If I want to create, I do the same – pencil & paper!

Jen Z - This is so true!! I remember actually having a professor in school who forced the students to create a certain number of paper/pencil sketches before starting any design project… which was a pain then, but the basic premise of getting your ideas out there first (without the distraction of a computer) is a solid one.

Besides, it’s always easier to actually get work done when you have a reference. It’s even helpful in the 9-5 design job. :)

All this basically to say: YES! AGREED! Spread the word! haha

anna - this is awesome! i thought it was just me…haha. i was telling my fiance the exact same thing about feeling stuck one night and he told me exactly what you posted…and he’s not a designer and swears there’s not a single creative bone in his body! hearing you say it reinforces that this is what i need to do. thank you so much for sharing!

kendra michelle - {very encouraging – thanks sister!}

Luke Copping - I cannot tell you how many times simply moving over to pen and paper, free writing, and doodling has saved me on those projects I just get blocked on. Sometimes in conjunction with an ever important change of scenery to get me out of my office headspace. It feels like getting more involved with something physically (by putting pen to paper) makes me use completely different parts of my brain and process things a little different than I do when sitting in front of the computer – which is more about process than creation.

Caytlyn - I totally agree with you! When I sit down and start to use a program I never get anywhere because of all the options I have to choose from, such as colors and fonts and I have no real direction. When I get away from the computer and sketch is when I can get all the bad ideas out fast and start to get an idea worth pursuing.

Rachel McCloud - Such a good idea to start the old fashioned way. :) Thanks for this. Definitely needed to hear it. :)

julie - Couldn’t agree more. Love it.

Christine - Great post! Do you have any tips for those of us who are attempting to DIY our brands, websites, blogs, etc?

Mallory Wiese - I have gotten into the habit of grabbing my sketch pad and whatever writing utensil is around first, then getting onto the computer. It has helped keep frustration away!

SARA RENEE - Amen sister!

THE PRODUCTS I DONT WANT TO FORGET

I thought about titling this post PROMISE’S MUST HAVES. Or PRODUCTS I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT. But Frankly…I definitely CAN live without these items…and a lot of other items too. I always hate when beauty magazine put that spin on products. #firstWORLDproblem. So instead I guess I am calling it MY DON’T FORGETS. It’s not much different, but you get the idea. These are some of my favorite products, that, when I am going on a trip I think to myself “oh I hope I didn’t forget my _________.”

Okay so here it goes…

1 // AVEDA GREEN SCIENCE EYE CREAM
My sister got this for me for Christmas one year and I got hooked. I love bright eyes so this product helps minimize the dark circles and moisturize the skin for an “I’m awake” look. It’s a little expensive but it goes a long way. Indeed it does.

Lydia - I never forget my Laura Mercier secret camouflage concealer! It helps to hide all those breakouts that come from having oilier skin!

Mailinh - My “don’t forgets” are

1. Lancome’s Genifique serum — makes my skin feel so wonderful (though it’s a little too pricey for me but worth it)

2. Aveda’s hand cream — I wash my hands all the time and need a hand cream that keeps them from drying out. Love this stuff!

3. Burt’s Bees Wax — gotta keep those lips moisturized.

I’ll have to try Make Up Forever’s concealer. I’ve got dark circles that make me look like a panda, so I gotta test this out.

Mel - <3 suave dry shampoo, I've tried many and you can't beat the results, smell, and price of suave!

Another dont forget for me would be smashbox photo finish primer— creates the best canvas for a light hand of makeup and makes it last all day and then some.

Oh, and of course MAC crayon eyeliner…. : )

Mel - Also, does AfterParty help with knots that tend to form from teasing your hair ?

Mel - Also, does AfterParty help with knots formed from teasing your hair?

Jeanette - I’m IN LOVE with Suave dry shampoo. It usually last quite a while, too except when my husband thought it was hairspray and used the rest of my bottle up…haha

promisetangeman - hahaa. Mel- My hair is naturally very dry. and I have some left over bleach underneath the brown color… so it naturally makes knots. :) I use the after party on the bottom half of my hair. and I usually do the backcombing to the roots. :)

melissa - - Korres Wild Rose Brightening Face & Eye Serum
- Korres Pomegranate Cream-Gel Moisturizer
- Korres Evening Primorse Eye Cream
- Suave Dry Shampoo
- Moroccanoil Repair Mask
- Kerastase Elixir Ultime
- my curling iron!!!!!
- and my mascara!!!!

Katy - LOVE After Party!! I use it after blow drying for a smoothing cream that still looks kinda messy…. It’s my favorite (and I need to get more).

Bianca Valentim - Awesome post! I love to see what people I like like to use for their hair and makeup. I bought the dry shampoo after I saw your video with the girls with the glasses and now just bought the TIGI after party from target. Will try it tomorrow. Thank you so much for sharing this! :)

Bianca Valentim - … and my favorite makeup is:
- stay don’t stray / primer from Benefit
- lemon aid – color correcting eyelid primer / from benefit
- smash box lipsticks
i discovered these three favorites recently, my friend renata marques recommended to me and i looove it! it really brightens the eye!

Caytlyn - I am obsessed with that suave dry shampoo, it’s perfect mid day when my side bangs start looking lifeless! and it smells so good!

ANNE DAPORE - I just tried the Suave Dry shampoo because of your post. I LOVE it. Amazing. I also just discovered from a few friends that pure coconut oil is awesome for conditioning your hair, softening your cuticles, repair dry hands and feet and much much more. You can cook with it and take it as a supplement to your diet. Helps with the thyroid. I love it to moisturize my hair but a lot goes a long way… I used it last night (very little) in my hair before I went to bed. In the morning my hair looked a bit greasy but smelled yummy. It smells like candy coconut. I just sprayed my hair with the Suave Dry Shampoo and it looks amazing and freshly washed with no oil. I get the coconut oil at the Indian grocery market. Its only $3 something for a large bottle. The brand I buy is Parachute.

Kelly Sauer - You know you have inspired me to use hair products for the first time in like, my whole life – and I’m loving the effects!

But the makeup – particularly the lipstick – yeah I totally need to make an investment there…

April - 1) My clarisonic mia face brush & hydro cleanser…my skin has always been problematic & the totally revolutionized my face!

2) MAC Ladybug red lipstick…the perfect retro red for a pale redhead :)

3) John Frieda – FrizzEase Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme – genius for last minute hair touch ups…and keeps split ends at bay

thanks for the tips…love that you’re willing to share your secrets!

Linda - I love Pssst dry shampoo! it’s in a not so pretty bottle but it makes me hair look great if I don’t wash it the next day (and my hair can get really oily). http://www.amazon.com/Pssssst-Dry-Shampoo-Instant-5-3/dp/B003NW8M1Q . Also love Nars blush in luster (it’s a pretty shimmery peach tone), Prestige automatic waterproof eyeliner (black), Urban Decay shadows, homemade body/lip scrub made with a mix of honey, olive oil, sugar, and Shiseido lash curler :)

jean kallina - I love Origins ginger scented body oil. It has the greatest smell
and leaves your skin silky. I want to try the bed head product you like.

MJ2DAY WORKSHOP LOGO & WEBSITE LAUNCH

Today is the day! We are really excited to announce that we were able to partner with Melissa Jill in creating a memorable impression for her MJ2DAY photography workshops. Melissa has been a friend for quite sometime now, and it was great to finally be able to partner together to create something AWESOME!! Well…If we may say so ourselves. Haha. Really, it was quite the honor to work with her. I have looked up to Melissa for a while now. She is amazing at business strategy, execution, client relationships, workflow, and photography. You couldn’t ask for a better combo! You may have remembered when Brian and I modeled for her workshop a couple of years back. It was really cool to hear and watch her teach other photographers. My husband Brian even said he was ready to pick up a camera after that. haha! It was very inspiring.
