USING YOUR ART FOR THE GREATER GOOD

IMG_7477editemailblog

I do not have much time to write…. BUT i wanted to say that we have under-estimated the power of OUR art. Today I have been really encouraged and inspired to continue to search for ways to serve my community and the less fortunate with my art and creativity! We painted a large mural on the wall as one of our work projects.. and i am so excited to show you later how it came out. and I also got the opportunity to teach a photography class to some orphan teenagers! They loved it. Check out this cute video of the Huruma kids welcoming us to their home. They were SCREAMING with excitement.

Please help support the orphanage i am at by blogging, twittering, telling your friends, & purchasing the Art for Huruma Project. http://www.bartondamer.bigcartel.com

IN THE COMMENT SECTION, PLEASE TELL WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IN THE PAST TO SERVE WITH YOUR ART IN SOME WAY OR HOW YOU PLAN TO USE YOUR ART FOR THE GREATER GOOD!! Even if it’s a tiny little way…. It doesn’t have to be art as in the fine art medium… it can just be thinking creatively. I would like to hear something from everyone. YOU are all creative thinkers and powerful people with your craft. I can’t wait to read what you have to say. Talk to each other.. ask questions, make big statements, or even small encouraging comments. lets make this a conversation of how we can begin to change our world through our art.
MISS YOU GUYS!!!

I spent a few months in East Africa last summer volunteering with a charity (Fields of Life, http://www.fieldsoflife.com), as a photographer, documenting their work. It was amazing… and so fulfilling to see my work on their site & publications afterwards, really making an impact.

This is beautiful. I’d love to help in some big way like that some day. For now, I have decided to donate a portion from every wedding in 2010 to my sister and brother in law. He is beginning a job in January with inner city youth and they have to raise their own salary. It takes people like you, and them, to change this world!

I have a dream to start a ministry in inner city churches for kids that are graduating high school, but can’t afford senior photos. To just give them a day where they feel important, and cared about, and to have photos to remember their youth by!

Hey, I stumbled onto your site from your link at abeautifulmess.typepad.com. I just wanted to let you know that I love your work! You are so beautiful and very inspiring. I made a post about your blog on mine :) . I don’t think I have really done a whole lot to impact the world with my art, except make little gifts for people, but it is definitely a goal of mine! Keep up the good work and God bless!

I was just in Swaziland, Africa for 2 weeks as our team photographer and also doing a project we called Legacy Books. We worked with an AIDS support group to put together memory books for them to leave behind for their children. I got to take their portraits and we all interviewed them and then put it all together. Hopefully that’s only the beginning of that project. Looks like your trip was amazing too!

I don’t have any photos from my time in Africa up yet, but soon!

Love that you are giving back. I was in Kenya for 7 months and it changed my life.

    LEGACY BOOKS? Love it.
