Okay, we got such a fun response from the call for artists blog post that I did a few days ago. I am really excited to tell you about this fun opportunity to create something, collaborate with other artists, and use your gifts to help others.
I really love opportunities to do good with the art that I create. It is really fulfilling and rewarding to create for the greater good. I have wanted to do something to help Haiti for a while now, so I feel that this will fit in perfectly. I want to tell you about a great new organization that will be incorporated into our project.

My friend Evie from Evie-s.com has started an amazing organization called A Beautiful Idea. The idea is that artists/Etsy owners create a certain product to sell in their shop then they partner online with A Beautiful Idea to donate the money to a charity via A Beautiful Idea’s donation center. Isn’t that fabulous and EASY?
To help kick off this idea off we will all be collaborating on one project that we will ALL be able to sell independently in our shops for A Beautiful Idea.

ART THAT HELPS: CREATIVE CHALLENGE OVERVIEW:
You will create and submit a small piece of digital art following the instructions and guidelines of the challenge. At the end of the challenge I will collect all submissions and create a collaborative collage containing all submitted pieces. Every artist will receive a link to download a digital version of the final collage to professionally print, (OR slice up, recreate, etc) and sell in their Etsy shop as A Beautiful Idea project. All the proceeds will go to the Haiti relief fund.
I actually love challenges with guidelines and instructions because I believe that real creativity comes from limited resources and limitations. I LOVE a challenge especially because it gets me thinking outside of the box and outside my normal creative routine. Plus, its fun to see what other people come up with when giving the same instructions.

INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINES:
1. You must have an active etsy shop with products for sale.
2. Create a simple design that depicts any of these words or phrases: Art for the greater good, Haiti, helping, serving, creativity, love wins, people, compassion, humble, humility.
3. Design can be a photograph, vector art, type treatment logo, decorated letter design, photo of shop item, drawing, illustration, etc.
4. The design you create must ONLY contain the colors displayed in the color story above.
5. The design must be a simple unite with a light/white background with no bleeds or edges (see below)
6. Submit your design at 8x8in 300 dpi.
7. Save your file with your name as the title
8. Deadline is Wednesday March 17th 2010 through email at info@promisetangeman.com. (Late submissions will not be accepted)
9. ONLY THE FIRST 20 PEOPLE TO RESPOND IN THE COMMENT SECTION WILL BE QUALIFIED TO PARTICIPATE.

Below is a series of examples that will NOT be accepted because the design bleeds to the edge.

A FEW OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
All artists that participate will be featured individually here on this blog with their design and links to their website or blog (kind of like an art show).
I have never done this type of project with you before, so I have NO idea what kind of response we will get. If there is an overwhelming response I may create multiple art collages containing the designs that all of you make. Once you have downloaded the file, it is up to you to print, sell, and donate the money from the sale of your item. A beautiful idea makes it really easy to do that.
Although I would love for everyone to participate in this collab, I am only accepting participants with active online Etsy shops with products already for sale.
Please feel free to use this logo below if you would like to blog about your fun creative process and journey through this project. Blogging this project is a fun way to create anticipation and UP your etsy sales when the product releases.

I would love to hear your initial thoughts about this project. Any questions? Or things unclear? Please ask in the comment section so everyone can see the answers. Also please let me know in the comment section if you plan to participate in this. Thanks so much.

March 3rd, 2010 at 1:19 am
I don’t have an etsy store yet. But I would love to set one up in order to participate and promote this cause!
So if that is enough to qualify, I’m in!
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:21 am
I would love to participate! This sounds amazing!
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:24 am
I would love to participate although I am a bit confused on how to create a photograph that doesn’t go to the edge… unless you just want a border.
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:25 am
i’m all in!! I set up my etsy last week- haven’t uploaded any of my stuff yet, but I’ll get working ASAP!
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:27 am
Oh how I WISH I could be a part of this.
I just recently foundout about Etsy, not even sure what to do with it. :/ If I can get a bit of details on it, I’d love to participate.
Your blog is getting like seriously extra awesome Promise. Don’t forget about the small folk here yonder!
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:30 am
Tim- Great question. Thanks for asking. There is an example of a photograph with no edges on the bottom right of the example sheet. Basically, your subject has to be extracted or isolated. Does that make sense?
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:31 am
Ahh, so an all over abstract textured photograph would not apply….
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:33 am
Sounds great, count me in!! I recently signed up to Etsy but haven’t put up anything yet. Getting started right now.
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:35 am
Tim- That would be correct. Unfortunately that type of photograph would not work for this project.
Let me know if you are In or want to pass this time.
LOVE your site.
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:36 am
okay cool. ill have to pass.
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:41 am
What a great idea! I’d love to participate. I have an etsy account but don’t sell anything at esty. Can i still participate?
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:43 am
This is such a great idea! I would love to participate in this!
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:48 am
Hey jenna. Although we would love to have you participate in this we need shops that are already open to participate. The goal is to bring sales to our project through active shops.
No need to fret. I will do more collab projects in the future if your shop isn’t set up yet.
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:53 am
Ah! Yeah, in that case, I won’t be able to participate either – since my shop is still in the making. Hopefully I’ll be able to participate in another collab project sometime
I think what you are doing is wonderful! Best wishes…
March 3rd, 2010 at 1:56 am
Ashley!!
Thanks girl! I would LOVE to have you participate in the future. Thanks for your support. Your photographs are beautiful.
March 3rd, 2010 at 2:05 am
I’m always down to help an awesome cause – count me in! Is it ok that my shop isn’t graphic design pieces?
March 3rd, 2010 at 2:14 am
Emilee,
Yes, it is okay as long as you submit a digital image depicting the theme listed. The photograph or digital image needs to have a white background and no bleeds or edges. Does that make sense?
March 3rd, 2010 at 2:41 am
Oh ya… I’m planning creating something, not a photograph of anything in my shop, just didn’t know if that was a requirement to participate.
March 3rd, 2010 at 2:45 am
Emilee- wait.. So did I answer your question? You do not have to create your piece in the same medium as the items in your shop. Is that what you meant?
March 3rd, 2010 at 2:48 am
YO!! THERE ARE ABOUT 14 SPOTS LEFT!! Your shop must be active and on Etsy.
March 3rd, 2010 at 2:50 am
Yes, thank you! Can’t wait
March 3rd, 2010 at 2:55 am
Promise,
If there is still room, i’d love to have a go at this… but my etsy site is BRAND NEW… are you looking for more established sellers to get the most effective exposure for this??
March 3rd, 2010 at 11:10 am
Hey melissa,
You are correct. This time around we need shops that are already open and active to participate. The goal is to bring sales to our project through active shops.
No need to fret. I will do more collab projects in the future if your shop is brand new.
March 3rd, 2010 at 11:20 am
