I lucked out. My first job was designing and developing websites at a wedding video company. Sound absurd? I know. I sold the guy on hiring me…

MY first job was a janitor @ a church, followed by a year long stint as a dog walker, followed by a 2 year stint as a gourmet dog treat baker. I have had quite the road to success… or will have had when I finally get there.

  4. Carol Asher Says:

I was a coke cart manager at the Tanque Verde Swap Meet in Tucson. We converted gold carts so we could hook up coca cola dispensers and drove around selling coca cola to the customers. Nothing better then an Iced cold coke and and shopping for fun, unique deals at a swap meet.

I, very ashamedly, acquired my first job at the age of 18 at Abercrombie & Fitch. I’m not proud of my past ways. However, it did afford some Christmas presents and I got to eat manchu wok Chinese food every day for a meal.

  8. Ashlee Says:

I worked for my neighbors out of their garage while I was in high school. They have their own bath & body company, Paige Meadows (http://www.paigemeadows.com). My sister & I would make gift sets, fill & label bottles of shower gel & lotion & send out orders. It was pretty sweet.

  9. Jason Says:

I worked at my grandparents’ bookstore, starting when I was so short that I needed a stool to stand on so I could see over the counter.

I remember answering one lady’s questions about something, and her not liking my answers. “Well. Don’t you think you should ASK someone?” she said, indignantly, and stormed off to find someone else. The best part of that story is when the person she found for a second opinion ended up asking me, in front of her.

  10. Prudence Says:

Besides babysitting which I think every young girl does, I was a dishwasher for a little cafe. It didn’t last very long. Most bizarre would be I was a laundry room attendant, which included washing other peoples clothes.

  11. April Russell Says:

My first job was oh so glamorous! I was a waitress at a place called Xans Diner. It was a 50′s cafe. Amazing food, hideous mini skirts, and GREAT music! I don’t regret it!

  12. Jennifer Says:

I was a co-op in the principles office of my high school :) if you can call that a REAL job lol. otherwise my first job was a Photo Tech at Walgreens. Worst.Job.EVER! Quickly left there to be a Receptionist at a Salon. which i LOVED!

  13. Michelle Moore Says:

Let’s see, my first job was teaching riding lessons to little kiddos ;) But I rode horses my entire life, so my next job that was different from that “life” was working at an Abercrombie when I was 17. Oh to be a young/skinny/wannabe-prep again……

  14. Cameron Smith Says:

  16. Sasha Ball Says:

Oh my…this takes me back! My first job was working for my local flower shop. It was pretty sweet. I got to help make sashes & flowers for Homecoming while I was in high school, and drive around on deliveries. Looking back, I’m surprised they let a 16 year old cheerleader drive the company mini-van! HAHA…Valentine’s day was the best, dealing with all the crazy farmers who forgot to get their wives flowers until the last minute. LOL! It beat flippin’ burgers like all my friends!

  17. rachel Says:

my first REAL job was working retail at Banana Republic for two years. Overlapping that I have a (kinda job/intern/volunteer) job at a medium sized church doing graphics and video for 5 pastors. I also have a work study job mixing the chemicals for the dark room at UofMich-Flint. It’s really nice to be able to have 24/7 access to traditional photography work room, when there aren’t that many left…

  18. Steve Valero Says:

My first job was at the age of fifteen and I worked at a place called ‘Castle Park’ in Riverside, CA. For those who have not seen it, the Castle was like ‘Castle’s and Coasters’ and my job title was ‘Golf Lead’ on the miniature golf course. I would pick up balls, fix lights, help people with the holes, and clean up messes. However, it was one of the most fun jobs as well. Each hole set you could go in. So we would explore things, hang out and play games, and do teenage stuff. The Castle is one of the places i used to see my current wife. Come talk with me if you want to hear more stories.

  23. jessica Says:

I haven’t thought about this place in a while! my first “real” job was as a telemarketer when i was 15. I did it for about a year, which is longer than a lot of other people lasted. There was a steady stream of characters flowing in and out of that place who worked like a day or two and then we never saw them again. We didn’t sell stuff, just collected donations for shriners and places like that, but boy did I get hung up on and yelled at a lot! lots of funny stories from that place…

  24. kretzu Says:

i worked as a dish washer in a college cafeteria. i was 15. the best part was during the summer when they had high school sport camps. the ladies loved the dishwashers.

    oh wait…no, that’s backwards.

  25. kimberly Says:

In typical redneck fashion, I worked at the DQ, or Dairy Queen, for those not in the know, in the mid-80s. Even now I can still do the DQ swirl, but alas, I was fired for calling out sick when I had the flu.

  26. Meredith Says:

Aside from the babysitting, my first legit job was as a hostess at a local mexican restaurant. It was like being paid to eat food. Awesome. Gradually I managed to be an intern at my church, which was a total win. Then i got paid to play music.
