CHAR PHOTOGRAPHY’S WEBSITE & BRANDING

I am super excited to share a project that has been in the works for a while now. Char Newswanger is an amazing lifestyle photographer fashionably capturing senior portraits and weddings. As soon as I read up on Char, saw her inspiration, descriptions, loves, and I did a little researched of my own… I FELL IN LOVE. It is an overwhelmingly joyful flying feeling when I get to work with clients that INSPIRE ME!! wow. that was the case with Char. I totally connected to her unique sense of style, passion, and excitement for life. Char is a gal that does things well and loves well. and I am extremely grateful that i got the chance to work with such a wonderful inspiring person.

PROJECT SCOPE
Char came to me with a really unique situation… She valued a website presence OVER a logo. So she proposed designing the look and feel of the site first and foremost… and if a logo came out of the project as well… then COOL! I was up for the challenge of working backwards. And I actually loved it. I feel that one of my strengths is capturing the essence of somebody and thats what I focused on.

Char’s branding package consisted of:
1. logo and kit of parts (colors, textures, fonts)
2. Website Design and implementation into showit
3. Blog header

ABOUT CHAR
When Char came to me she had established her photography business as Authentic You Photography, but throughout the creative process all parties decided that her name was REALLY cool and unique and it would be a great way to differentiate her business as “Char”. Her name is short and powerful, making a bold statement. The logo and name is accompanied by “Photography and you”.

INSIDE SCOOP ON MY CREATIVE PROCESS

A few of my blog readers requested that I touch on a few of the topics that I covered in my presentation for the showit freedom tour. So…over the next few weeks I will be posting a few thoughts on branding and seeing your business through a different creative lens.

In this post I want to talk a little bit about getting inspiration FROM your logo. I know the title “get inspiration from your logo” sounds a bit funny. But maybe after reading this you can try looking at your logo in a new way… and maybe even be inspired to try something new. This is my first time trying to describe the process that happens inside of my head… so I hope this makes sense. If it doesn’t just ask questions in the comment section and hopefully I can clarify.

A lot of creative small businesses can get carried away being inspired by OTHER creative businesses. And even get caught up thinking “WOW i wish my branding looked like theirs”. Therefore they end up copying that business’s website, brochure, or business card and just replacing their logo with their own. Well, instead of getting distracted by other’s looks… why not be inspired by your own logo and create your design piece around the shapes and structure of your own logo?!?! Does that idea make sense?

WEB DESIGN FOR BROOKE WHITE: american idol

So I have been really excited about this project and I’m so glad I get to show you today. Brooke White is a SUPER talented singer songwriter and such an AWESOME girl. Brooke found me on twitter a while back and asked me to design her a simple landing page for her site. We plan to develop a more in depth site in the future, but we just kept it simple for her re-appearance this coming Wednesday on American Idol. WOOHOOO for BROOKE!!! You may recognize her from the Girls with Glasses Show that I blogged about yesterday. A big thanks to SHOWITFAST.COM for the creative freedom in the software for me to make this site. And a thanks to them for processing it ASAP to go live before her AI appearance. YOU GUYS ROCK!!

You know those projects where you just feel REALLY inspired to create it?!? Well, that was this way for me. Getting to know Brooke, seeing her personality, and then seeing her inspiration images, made my head and heart start spinning with ideas. It’s really refreshing and exciting when the client you work with REALLY gets you, the design process, and totally trusts you. I was UBER inspired for this project and I hope it shows. I told her that if she didn’t like the site then consider it MY new site. haha. SHE LOVED IT! Great for her, great for me, bad for me. hahaha.

USING YOUR ART FOR THE GREATER GOOD

IMG_7477editemailblog

I do not have much time to write…. BUT i wanted to say that we have under-estimated the power of OUR art. Today I have been really encouraged and inspired to continue to search for ways to serve my community and the less fortunate with my art and creativity! We painted a large mural on the wall as one of our work projects.. and i am so excited to show you later how it came out. and I also got the opportunity to teach a photography class to some orphan teenagers! They loved it. Check out this cute video of the Huruma kids welcoming us to their home. They were SCREAMING with excitement.
