MY NEW STYLE ICON IS A 9 YEAR OLD

OH MY GOSH!!! Yes this is true!!! T-R-U-E!!! My *new* style icon is a 9 year old. I am in LOOOOVE with Will Smith’s daughter Willow Smith. Check out her STYLE!!!! I love her funky personality and sass. A lot of you have probably already seen this video. But i had to share. I can’t get over her serious style. What the heck? It should be illegal for a 9 year old to have soooo much personality. I woke up with this song in my head 2 days in a row now. A BIG shout out to my pal Stephanie Bouck showing me this video.

PLEASE WELCOME ALEX: this girl has been workin hard

I am so excited to share with you a really fun announcement. Alex Evjen from AVE Styles has come on board to be the assistant and project manager of Promise Tangeman Creative. It has been really amazing to watch the brand grow and I have been so thankful to have Alex’s organizing expertise onboard for the last couple of months. So now, if you inquire for design services Alex will get you all set up with pricing and scheduling. AHH she is amazing. She is also the Manager of my new project release SiteHouse.

I wanted to do a little interview with her, so you guys can get to know Alex a little better. You can check out the branding blog post that I did for her HERE. Check out this interview and give a BIG WARM welcome to Alex in the comment section, because this girl has been workin hard

1. WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU DO?
My name is Alexandra Evjen, but after you meet me once you know me as Alex. If you’re around my family you’ll definitely hear my Mom and Dad call me Allie, Al and Lulu Baby (I’m not going to go into that last one though). Haha! As far as what I do goes, I would say my passions are separated into fashion, communications and music. The first two I get to do for a living, and it’s wonderful.

I’m a fashion stylist, and founded my styling business AVE Styles this past year. My business encompasses everything from styling photo shoots to closet organization (www.avestyles.com). I’m also the Director of Communications for The American Institute of Architects Arizona and the new Project Manager for Promise Tangeman Creative. Yay!

In my spare time, you can find me singing here and there, and of course, spending quality time with my family, friends and the cutest goldendoodle in the whole world – Wendy.

Your new summer hair accessory? Well… mine at least. So fresh and earthy. This is a really easy DIY using items that are probably already in your home.. And thats exactly the way I like it. haha. I am really thrifty and always like to see what I can make with the items  that I already have. You can be lazy this summer and just wear plain, simple, and comfortable summer dresses and or bathing suit covers and just throw in a cute hair accessory to spice it up. Okay so here it goes.

SUMMER THRIFT STORE FAVORITES & BARGAIN SHOPPING TIPS

Because summer is approaching and practically here, I wanted to share with you some of my summer thrift store favorites. I have many more to show you, but I will start with these two outfits. I also put together a little list of tips that I made up and use regularly when I am shopping for a good bargain. I feel like these tips just help keep me on track, because sometimes I get distracted, or maybe i cant really tell if it’s a good deal or not. Let me know if these help, or if you end up trying them. Or even better… Do you have any tips or guidelines when thrift store shop?

PROMISE’S THRIFT STORE TIPS:
1. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Only buy when you absolutely love it.
2. GET PERSPECTIVE. Visualize the piece of clothing out of its context. Would you like it if it was from Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie?? If no, then skip it.
3. PRICE CHECK IT. If you can’t decide how much you love it, say how much you would pay for it (before looking at the price), then look at the price. If its over what you said… then skip it.
4. LOOK OUT FOR FAKERS. Just because the piece looks better then the REST of the clothes THERE, doesn’t mean you need to take it home. Because, it might end up being the WORST piece in your closet, and then you may never wear it.
5. NOTICE THE DETAILS. Never forget to stop by the shoes, jewelry, glasses, ties, scarves, belts. You might find a gem. It’s really easy to skip over these sections, but there are TONS of good stuff.

FRUITS MAGAZINE AS FASHION INSPIRATION

I found out about Fruits Magazine in College and I now look for it in book stores wherever I go. Fruits is a street fashion magazine featured in the streets of Japan. I am amazed at all the RAD outfits, layering, funky colors, crazy hairdos and shoes that I have never seen before. I find myself looking at these magazines over and over again and finding new things every time. Tune is the guy version of Fruits and I have some photo displayed from that as well. Check out the website HERE. Do you have anything to share for inspiration? I wish I was daring enough to wear HALF of these outfits. They seriously make them look SOOO good

DESIGNS FOR MATILDA JANE CLOTHING

blog1blog

I am really excited to share this project with you guys. Denise from Matilda Jane contacted me about sprucing up her brand for a more 2010 springy look. I have seen/heard about Matilda Jane clothing. Blog. So when i saw her name in my inbox i was STOKED to be able to work with a client whose products i really admire and relate to. Plus, i rarely see ADORABLE kids clothes around.

Matilda Jane is a funky little children’s clothing brand with lots of color, patterns, and quirk. I think i fit best with the quirk part. haha. I felt really drawn to this project and very much inspired to design for her. Below is her original logo that she sent me. Which i think is very cute. But to change it up for this season.. i presented a few options using her exsiting and VERY cute logo.

logo

I presented three different spring looks (the two not chosen are shown below). One with lots of layers, one with more of a colorful earthy feel, and the last one with a more text driven look.

combo

The look she chose is shown below. It was actually the first one that i designed. It’s good to know that my first instincts are correct. We added a few things from each look. Over all I really think it goes with her line nicely. We did 2 greeting cards, 2 stickers, 1 boys t-shirt design, 4 blog headers, and 1 website look. The website was already designed by a great designer… but we just added a few graphics around the site to freshen it up. The changes to the site are all still in process.. so be sure to check back from time to time to see whats going on.
