CREATIVE CLUTTERY PACK-RAT RAMBLINGS

GOOD MORNING!!!! Since I have been back from tour I have been inspired and researching ways to revamp our home. And it’s been SOOO fun browsing around pinterest for fun ideas. And I know there are tons of amazing shops, stores, boutiques and resources online for your home. When we walked in from being gone for a whole month, I felt like we lived in a creative cluttery mess. AND ITS TIME TO WEED OUT AND GET RID OF STUFF. I think I am kind of a pack rat sometimes. I always think: “That it will come in handy someday”… or “surely I will wear that again”, or even “I can make something RAD with this”….But I usually never do.

Anyway, I think I am stuck on paint colors right now. We really need to repaint…. But I am not sure which direction to go. I love the shades of gray. But those can really be messed up too, like look light blue on accident. I am looking for a mix between funky, yet re-sellable. I can’t imagine I can find something that works for both of those. Thoughts?

Here is a link to my home inspiration pinboard on Pinterest

Any cool decal, wallpaper, or paint companies you know of?

INSPIRATION IS A TIME MACHINE

On the way home from Rome I finished reading this MIND BLOWING book called “Rework”, recommended from our friends over at Soul City Church. To be really honest, I am not a big reader. My mind usually gets really distracted and I start dreaming of creative ideas that get me carried away to another land. But this book really kept my attention and helped me view my business in a different way. It was cool to see that some of the things they mentioned in the book, I am already doing. And others I was enlightened beyond belief. I will definitely fill you in more on some of the amazing things they touch on in this book. But the last page had my name written all over it. It was titled:

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

INSPIRATION IS PERISHABLE
We all have ideas, ideas are immortal. They last forever. What doesn’t last forever is inspiration. Inspiration is like fresh fruit or milk: It has an expiration date. If you want to do something, you’ve got to do it now. You can’t put it on the shelf and wait two months to get around to it. You can’t just say you will do it later. Later you won’t be pumped up about it anymore.

INSIDE SCOOP ON MY CREATIVE PROCESS

A few of my blog readers requested that I touch on a few of the topics that I covered in my presentation for the showit freedom tour. So…over the next few weeks I will be posting a few thoughts on branding and seeing your business through a different creative lens.

In this post I want to talk a little bit about getting inspiration FROM your logo. I know the title “get inspiration from your logo” sounds a bit funny. But maybe after reading this you can try looking at your logo in a new way… and maybe even be inspired to try something new. This is my first time trying to describe the process that happens inside of my head… so I hope this makes sense. If it doesn’t just ask questions in the comment section and hopefully I can clarify.

A lot of creative small businesses can get carried away being inspired by OTHER creative businesses. And even get caught up thinking “WOW i wish my branding looked like theirs”. Therefore they end up copying that business’s website, brochure, or business card and just replacing their logo with their own. Well, instead of getting distracted by other’s looks… why not be inspired by your own logo and create your design piece around the shapes and structure of your own logo?!?! Does that idea make sense?

FREAKIN RAD HOME INSPIRATION

So the story goes that Brian and I are organizing our lives, our home, our office, and re-defining our lifestyle. hha okay I might not go that far… but I have been researching home and office organization a lot in the past few days. I have narrowed it down to some pretty RAD home designs that I want to show you. So basically you are pretty lucky because I spent hours doing this and you get to see the outcome of it. haha. jk. I hope you find this as inspiring as I do. Most of these images come from Apartment Therapy and are REAL homes. But those 4 RAD art desks come from pottery barn. AHH I think they are amazing. I hope you enjoy these OFF THE CHAIN homes. Link here in the comment section with more inspiring links, thoughts, or comments. See you soon. LOVE YOU!!

Because I am a new homemaker it’s taken me a little time figuring out what would work for Brian and I. It’s really fun to have a husband that wants to have a say in some of the decisions like this. I have discovered that brian and I love artistic homes with personal touches, limited clutter, big furniture pieces, COMFORT, and function. I LOVE design that not only looks pretty but that has a strong dynamic function as well.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THAT FREE MINUTE?

kimmasoncropblog

Here is a painting project that my hair stylist Kim hired me to do as a christmas gift to her husband. You may have remembered some of the photos that i took of them recently, see them here. Her husband is a professional skate boarder so i tried to do it a little more STREET STYLE. hha. The size is a 38in x 38in square. aww i LOVE working in squares. I really like the way it came out. Do you?

anyway… this is a side note.. i am dying to know this from you today. What do you do with that free minute in the day/week/or month? and NO i am not talking about roll over minutes on your cell phone, silly. When everything is said and done and you have a little free time… what is it that you look forward to doing? DO TELL DO TELL. be specific.
