THE DESIGN PROCESS FOR EXPOSED MAGAZINE with Jasmine Star

You might have remembered the THIS post a few months ago announcing the launch Jasmine Star’s magazine Exposed. It was a really great accomplishment for not only her but for the whole team that was involved. Check out some of my favorite spreads from the magazine HERE. And congrats to Jasmine for Selling out of Exposed! WOHOO!!

On a personal level, this project was a milestone. I LOVE projects that inspire me, scare me, and stretch me. Even though they may be cause of some heartache and nervous tension they make me better, more experienced, and more confident in the end. Through this process there were some moments where I had NO clue what I was doing, but I was determined to research and figure out how to do the best I could.

That being said… I thought I would shed some light on some of the design details and thought processes behind the creation of Exposed Magazine.

ANNOUNCING AN EXCITING PROJECT + PREVIEW

WOOP WOOP!!!! UMMM so I just did my first video blog. YIKES!!! Might be kinda scary. So, sorry a head of time. AND I talk fast. Sorry again. Like I said in the video this was a really fun, fresh new project. It’s unlike anything I’ve done or worked on before. The magazine is Jasmine’s story…. kind of like a book in a magazine type of format. I learned so much reading this. I read it so many times in this process that I probably could recite the whole shabang to you. Jasmine shares personal stories, heartbreaking situations, embarrassing moments, and it’s JAM PACKED with really practical workflow advice, business tips, and ideas to consider and learn from. EVERY PAGE of the 160 pages is designed for your viewing pleasure. haha. I documented the design process through out the project, so I will be sharing that soon!! Enjoy.

SIREN MAGAZINE FEATURE

I was really honored to have been interview by Sarah from Siren Magazine. I love the magazine and the topics she is covering. Its pretty cool!! I thought it was going to the be the typical interview… but she asked some really interesting questions and i really enjoyed answering them. Some of them were: If you couldn’t be an artist, what would you do? Does your faith/belief system affect the way you run Promise Tangeman Creative? If you could swap wardrobes with one celebrity, who would it be? What is your guilty pleasure? And this one is really interesting: Some say the church is not creative enough, while others say the church is too focused on aesthetic (with fog machines, elaborate sets, etc.). How do you feel the church is doing creatively, and why is this important?

FEATURED IN: WLWL MAGAZINE

HOLY HUGE ARTICLE!! I am really grateful and thankful to be featured in the new WeLikeWeLove online Magazine this month. It is seriously an amazing magazine and SUPER pretty to look at. I got to meet the genius behind this magazine, Alyssa Chomick Yuhas, at Alt Design Summit this year. I was overwhelmed (in a good way) with what she’s got going on.

Check out the article. She asks some really intriguing questions about blogging. Like why I do it, why I love it, how it has affected my business, and how I think it’s shaping the industry.

INSPIRATION THROUGH PRINT

Within in the past few months I have been really inspired by patterns, prints, and color in home design print magazines. There is something so fresh about being able to flip through the pages, to feel, and look through the design layout. I search for a lot of things online… But I just love the relaxing feel of browsing through a magazine over coffee or an airplane ride.

We are getting ready to leave Rome and head home. Vacationing, sightseeing, and shopping is really fun… but there is nothing better than home. Do you agree? I am piling up all my good reads and fun magazine inspiration before tomorrow when we leave.

Lately I have been completely entertained and inspired by Vogue Home. There is a level of funky fashion, shock factor, and random/odd placement of fun furniture. This magazine has rocked my socks off. I pulled some of my favorite spreads from this particular issue.

What are some RAD print Magazine that you have been into lately? I always love to check out new stuff. So link or post your own photos to show here in the comment section.

WHY AWARENESS HELPS

The posters and t-shirt have been shipped, and the numbers have been calculated. I am very excited that $2530 gets to go to the Huruma children’s home in Kenya Africa. This project was a great first trial run. and I am very pleased with the result for this first time. Thank you to everyone for ordering, and spreading the word about the project.

A few people have contacted me saying that we were featured in the new collide magazine… and I FINALLY got one in the mail to seee for myself. HAHA. It’s so fun to see a project so dear to my heart featured in a magazine that i deeply respect. I know by now, you guys are probably tired of hearing about Art for huruma. haha. Well it’s almost over. BUT I seriously had so much fun working alongside barton damer and using our gifts and talents for the greater good. I encourage everyone to try a project similar to this, thinking outside the box to give to others with your art. SO fun. It is awesome that a project like this can help bring awareness in a fun way, while giving, using our talents/ abilities, then resulting in actual funds to send to the orphange.
