The house was decked with gold streamers, colorful confetti, beards, great friends, and GOOD food. I was pretty nervous considering I am not Susie Homemaker and I consider myself a terrible host. But with some help of some great friends I pulled off a surprise 30th birthday party for my husband Brian. I can’t believe he’s 30. He had NO idea and I was completely surprised that he was surprised. haha. I am very thankful that he was traveling in the beginning of November so I was able to sneak a few trips and planning dates in when he was gone. His parents came out to visit us and I told Brian that I was helping my assistent, Alex, get her house ready for her “open House” on saturday. His parents said they wanted to see her home and meet Alex too. So they brought him at 7:30pm. Little did he know that it was his surprise party. And SURPRISE!!! Check out the video above of the surprise moment. It was pretty epic.

WHY I LOVE 31 BITS
The 31 bits girls, their goals, their passion, and creativity have inspired me more than I have been inspired in a LONG TIME!!! The photoshoot (here & here) I did with them really changed me. Its funny how a photoshoot can do that. But it wasn’t actually photoshoot… It was the time I spent with them. I got the chance to hang out with them for the day, ask questions, and listen to their hopes and dreams for this company. AND YOU GUYS, IT’S SERIOUSLY AMAZING!! Their hearts are HUGE and full of fresh inspiration. They are just 5 normal girls that are on this journey… figuring this whole thing out… and stepping forward with faith. And the most amazing and inspiring part is that they are WILDLY SUCCEEDING. At the end of the day I was seriously ready to quit my design job and join the 31 Bits team… doing ANYTHING! Seriously!! I LOVE what I do and that is not something I take lightly. But their dreams are far beyond what my little brain can grasp. And it’s so encouraging.

Each piece of the 31 bits jewelry is handmade by one of 63 women in Uganda, using 100% recycled paper and other local materials. 31 Bits is committed to working with each woman until she has graduated from their program and attained a sustainable means of income within her own community!

YOU GUYS!!! I am so excited to be doing Showit website critiques next wednesday at their live hang out. IT WILL BE SOOOO MUCH FUN!!  This is a great opportunity for someone that has created their own website using showit. I will be giving design tips to improve your site design. Sorry I have been off line for a few days. I am getting ready to go on the showit tour and Im working on getting a few things squared away. Lots to do and show you.

The phrase “embracing whimsey” sounds strangely familiar to me. Although, I do not know where I heard it. Or maybe it’s just in my head. Hahah. But that is exactly how I felt when I created these new business cards for my business. Whenever I am considering adding new elements to my branding or even re-printing business cards… I always get stuck between my style/heart of artistic whimsey and my idea of what I think “professional” looks like.
Of course there are different levels of professionalism and different aesthetics to getting there. Actually its pretty weird to think about what the word “professional” means. It means an “expert at”. So basically if I consider myself a professional in my field… or even an expert…then I am creating a professional business card. HECK YEA!! haha. This is just a random rant in the inner workings of Promise Tangeman.

Hey Friends,
I just wanted to stop in and say HI. I have been in Las Vegas for the past week at a photography conference at WPPI. but I just wanted to let you know that I haven’t forgotten about you… and I cant wait to get back and get going on some more projects. It’s really weird… but I actually have missed my blogging community this past week. I have so much to show you. I love projects and art so much. It has been a great break for me to be able to sit back, learn, listen, and the funnest part: CONNECT WITH ONLINE FRIENDS. I have had seriously an amazing time here at WPPI getting to know my online friends in person. The internet is so powerful and I have been so thankful for this past year and everyone that I have met. It has seriously been amazing.
